Anaïs Mitchell's acclaimed folk opera will make its pre-Broadway Canadian premiere in November; the cast also includes Amber Gray.
A trio of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark alums will reunite for the Canadian premiere of Anaïs Mitchell's acclaimed folk opera Hadestown. The production, billed as a pre-Broadway engagement, will be presented November 11–December 3 at the Citadel Theatre.
Patrick Page, Reeve Carney, and T.V. Carpio, who starred in the headline-making 2011 musical as the Green Goblin, Peter Parker, and Arachne, respectively, will reunite under the direction of Rachel Chavkin, who helmed Hadestown's Off-Broadway run at New York Theatre Workshop.
Page will play Hades with Carney and Carpio as the central pair of Orpheus and Eurydice.
The cast will also feature Amber Gray (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) as Persephone and Kingsley Leggs (The Color Purple, Sister Act) as Hermes. Both Gray and Page reprise their performances from the Off-Broadway premiere of the folk opera.
Rounding out the company as Fates and Workers are Vance Avery, Kira Guloien, Jewelle Blackman, Evangelia Kambites, Andrew Broderick, Tara Jackson, and Hal Wesley Rogers.
The Off-Broadway premiere of Hadestown began performances in May 2016. The new work, which was the recipient of a Richard Rodgers Production Award, follows Orpheus’ quest to overcome Hades and regain his one true love. The show is inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz.
A subsequent workshop presentation took place in March featuring Carney, Page, and Gray. A live cast recording was released earlier this month.
Details for future productions, including a potential Broadway run, have yet to be announced.
