The musical will premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in May.
Broadway alum Elizabeth Stanley will star in the world premiere of Jagged Little Pill, featuring the songs of Alanis Morissette. As previously reported, the musical will premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Diane Paulus-helmed production will run May 5–June 30.
Stanley has appeared on Broadway in On the Town, Million Dollar Quartet, Cry-Baby, and the 2006 revival of Company. Her additional credits include The Red Letter Plays Off-Broadway and national tour of The Bridges of Madison County.
The Drama Desk nominee performed selections of the score at the A.R.T.’s gala March 5; joining her were Laurel Harris (Beautiful), Logan Hart (The Book of Mormon national tour), Nora Schell (Spamilton), and Soph Menas.
Additional casting will be announced at a later time. A 29-hour Equity reading that took place in June last year featured Idina Menzel. The Tony winner is set to star in Joshua Harmon’s Skintight Off-Broadway at the time of the A.R.T. run.
The musical will use the Morissette catalog, including the songs from her Grammy-winning 1995 album of the same name, to tell an original story that follows a modern, multi-generational family and explores gender and racial identity.
Oscar-winning Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody will pen the book. The creative team also includes orchestrator and musical arranger Tom Kitt and choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
